ACTU / ME Footy Tipping 2016 winners

We are pleased to announce the winners of this year’s ACTU / ME AFL and NRL Footy Tipping Competitions.

The winner of the AFL tipping comp is Carmel Cox, an IEU member from Melbourne. Carmel won by the slimmest of margins with a fantastic score of 151 with a margin of 555 at the end of the AFL home and away season.  Carmel will receive $1,000 into her Everyday Transaction Account from ME and just in time as she’s headed off overseas this week!  Carmel was rapt to find out she’d won the tipping competition just in time for her trip.

The NRL competition winner is Megan Schulze, a Together member and CFMEU employee from Brisbane.  Megan tipped a very impressive 142 with a margin of 252 and will also receive $1,000 into a new Everyday Transaction Account from ME.

A big thank you to all the union member tipsters and also to ME for providing the prize money.

Don’t forget we’re back in 2017!

Jobs and work – the key drivers of financial wellbeing

No matter your current job or whether you work full-time, part-time or on a casual basis, the changing face of employment is impacting our financial wellbeing.

If you’re struggling to get ahead financially, you’re not alone. The latest Household Financial Comfort Report (HFCR) from ME shows financial wellbeing deteriorated among Australian households in the six months to June 2016.

Not only do more of us feel vulnerable to income shocks brought on by lost jobs and wage cuts, many workers are also dealing with reduced working hours, leading to worries about managing household debt. In fact, 90% of Australian households have concerns about their financial wellbeing, with only one in ten reporting a high level of financial comfort.

Check your super statement

Are you one of the 690,000 working Australians who are not currently receiving their full super payment? The best way to find out is to check your Super statement.

For those workers not being paid their super, the average amount they missed out on in 2015 was $3,768. This money – a whopping $2.6billion – is workers’ money not being paid to their super fund accounts.*

Unfortunately, that amount is growing every year and represents a significant amount of money that members won’t have to fund their retirement years.

Hold a CUB free Grand Final BBQ

Thirteen weeks ago fifty-five CUB workers were sacked and offered their jobs back for just 35% of their pay.

You can support these workers by holding a BBQ on Grand Final weekend without any CUB drinks.

Join thousands in telling SAB Miller – the multinational owner of CUB – to give them their jobs back on their proper pay.

Please register here to confirm your participation in our CUB Free BBQ and share the event with friends to do the same.

You can find the full list of CUB brews to avoid here.

Win a DVD from Madman!

Enter the draw to win one of three DVD copies of ‘Backtrack’ or ‘A Month of Sundays‘ that we are giving away to six lucky union members this month!

Psychologist Peter Bower’s life is thrown into turmoil when he discovers that the patients he has been seeing are ghosts. Risking his own sanity, Peter delves into his past to uncover a terrifying secret which only he can put right. Backtrack is a spine-chilling psychological thriller from the acclaimed writer-director, Michael Petroni.

To win a copy of ‘Backtrack‘ email [email protected] with your name, address, union name and membership number before close of business Friday 30th September 2016.

A Month of Sundays

Real estate agent Frank Mollard won’t admit it, but he can’t move on. Divorced but still attached, he can’t sell a house in a property boom – much less connect with his teenage son. One night Frank gets a phone call from his mother. Nothing out of the ordinary. Apart from the fact that she died a year ago.

A Month of Sundays is about parents, children, regrets, mourning, moments of joy, houses, homes, love, work, television, Shakespeare and and jazz fusion: about ordinary people and improbable salvation.

Because everyone deserves a second chance.  Even a real estate agent.

To win a copy of ‘A Month of Sundays’ email [email protected] with your name, address, union name and membership number before close of business Friday 30th September 2016.
