There has been lots of flowery prose and tributes delivered to frontline women workers, but applause and pats on the back don’t pay the bills, according to Ms O’Neil.
Years and years of government economic mismanagement have stacked up. Insecure work, insufficient disability support, and stagnating wages have left workers with little hope of keeping up with daily prices.
It’s about helping community groups in areas that have been completely impacted, where houses have been shattered. If we can get the local dance school up and running or tennis facility or hockey field or scout group going it gives people a bit of hope.
History has shown us that equality and safety at work has not been delivered by business lobbyists but by generations of women union members demanding change.
