Requesting a pay rise actually works but few ask

In a period of record low wage growth, one of the most successful strategies among workers to increase their incomes − asking for a pay rise – is also one of the least used, according to a new survey by industry super fund-owned bank, ME.

Only 12% of the 1,000 workers across the country surveyed in the ‘ME Show Me the Money!’ survey said they had asked for a pay rise, with this figure dropping to 8% among women, but of those who deployed this strategy, almost 75% enjoyed success.

According to the survey an overwhelming 90% of workers said they would like to be earning more, with the most common motivation to pay for the cost of living (25% reported this motivation), while the most common motivation among Gen Z (aged 18-24) and Millennials (aged 25-39) was paying for a house (45% and 31% respectively).

Industry Super concerned over proposed Government changes

The long-term out-performance of industry super funds over a 10-year period demonstrates the Federal Government’s proposed changes to not-for-profit super funds are off the mark.

Have a Streets Free Summer!

Unions are calling on everyone to stand up for fairness and commit to a Streets-Free Summer.

Streets Ice-Cream management have hit the nuclear option and applied to terminate the collective agreement negotiated by workers and their union, the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union. This would leave Streets’ employees facing a devastating 46% pay cut.

Sign the petition in support of Streets workers

These workers need your support. We know that the only way we can make this company listen is to hit them where it hurts and boycott their products.

Products to avoid are Magnum, Golden Gaytime, Paddle Pop, Cornetto, Splice, Calippo, Bubble O’Bill, Blue Ribbon, and Vienetta.
