Happy September, Comrades!  This month we kick off with news on the ACTU / ME 2017 Footy Tipping competitions, handy tips on saving on household essentials from ME, there’s a great offer from Tyresales.com.au, plus there’s two terrific DVDs from Madman to win!

Quick tips to save on household essentials from ME

ME’s 12th Household Financial Comfort Report revealed that cost of necessities is the biggest worry for 44% of Australian households.

That’s understandable as these expenses can eat up a large chunk of our income. Below are a few quick tips to save on household essentials:

Go Sherlock on your spending

Investigate what you spend your money on and identify if anything could be cut out – this could be anything from coffee and restaurant meals to dry cleaning and hair colouring. Question what you buy and where you shop – could you be getting a better deal? Set a budget on costs and stick to it. ASIC’s TrackMySPEND app is a good way to keep track of your personal expenses on the go.

ACTU / ME Footy Tipping 2017 update

We are pleased to announce the winner of the ACTU / ME AFL Footy Tipping Competition is George Phelps, a retired CEPU member from Sydney. George won with a fantastic score of 138 with a margin of 617 at the end of the AFL home and away season.  George will receive $1,000 into an Everyday Transaction Account from ME.  Hearty congratulations, George!

The NRL competition first place getter was Carol Timmins, but unfortunately we have been unable to get a response from Carol in order to verify her union membership status. If anyone knows Carol Timmins from our NRL Footy Tipping Competition please tell her to contact the ACTU post haste as there is $1,000 awaiting her!

A big thank you to all the union member tipsters and also to ME for providing the prize money.

Don’t forget we’re back in 2018!

Win a DVD from Madman!

Enter the draw to win one of three DVD copies of ‘Zero Days’ or ‘Art and Soul – Series Two‘ that we are giving away to six lucky union members this month!

Zero Days

ZERO DAYS tells the story of Stuxnet, a self-replicating computer malware, known as a “worm” for its ability to burrow from computer to computer on its own. The USA and Israel unleashed the virus to destroy a key part of an Iranian nuclear facility, and which ultimately spread beyond its intended target. It’s the most comprehensive accounting to date of how a clandestine mission hatched by two allies with clashing agendas opened forever the Pandora’s Box of cyber-warfare.

To win a copy of ‘Zero Days‘ email [email protected] with your name, address, union name and membership number before close of business Friday 29th September 2017.

Art and Soul – Series Two
A diverse group of outstanding contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists reveal to pre-eminent curator Hetti Perkins how their art practice is driven by culture and heritage, political and personal preoccupations, dreams and imagination. Using the National Gallery of Australia’s extraordinary Indigenous collection as the springboard, we travel with Hetti through cities and desert communities, museums and artists’ private spaces, to experience the diversity and beauty of the art, and to learn of its genesis.

To win a copy of ‘Art and Soul – Series Two’ email [email protected] with your name, address, union name and membership number before close of business Friday 29th September 2017.
