How to celebrate International Women’s Day in your local community

It’s not even 8 March yet and already International Women’s Day events have kicked off with a bang. Workers in Newcastle and Darwin have taken the lead in showing us how it’s done.

When you’re a union member, every day is women’s day. Change can be taking to the streets and marching, but it’s also the day-to-day conversations you have in your workplace. What’s great about International Women’s Day is the opportunity to spotlight the collective power of working women.  

It’s also a day to celebrate what we have already won and to show what we are determined to achieve. Find out which International Women’s Day events are happening near you.

International Women’s Day events across Australia

New South Wales

• Unions NSW will host a rally at Sydney Town Hall 11 March at 11am. Find more event details on the Facebook event page.

Northern Territory

• At 4pm on 11 March Unions NT will kick off a women’s movie night with food, door prizes and guest speakers at 38 Woods St, Darwin. Check out the full details and RSVP.

Queensland

• Unions QLD will host a rally at Emma Miller place on 11 March at 10am. Find more event details on the Facebook event page.

South Australia

• Join the International Women’s Day march on 8 March at 5pm at Tarntanyangga / Victoria Square. Check out the Facebook event for the details.

Tasmania

• Join Unions Tasmania for the International Women’s Day rally in Franklin Square on 8 March at 12:30pm. Find the details on the Unions Tasmania website.

Victoria

• Victorian Trades Hall Council will host a march at the Old Treasury Building on 8 March at 5:30pm. Check out the event details on the We Are Union website or sign up to join the young workers contingent.

Western Australia
