On Friday, ACTU Secretary Sally McManus wrote to Prime Minister Scott Morrison, calling on the Federal Government to immediately instate JobKeeper 2.0.

The pandemic health and economic crisis isn’t over. Far from it.

The Morrison Government prematurely ended JobKeeper at the end of March – four months later, we’re months behind on the vaccine rollout and lockdowns are still being enforced at a moment’s notice across the country.

“Many Australians are out of work. They have been forced to exhaust their savings, raid their super and use up all their annual and personal leave entitlements, if they had any in the first place, and now face trying to survive without a proper income.

I repeat the call to immediately establish JobKeeper 2.0, which must be at least $750 per week for all workers, including casuals and those on visas, must maintain the vital connection between workers and employers, and must be effectively administered so Australians can access the support they need, when and where they need it.

I make this call in a spirit of cooperation and in the national interest.”

Over half of the country is in lockdown due to the Prime Minister’s botched vaccine program. But this time, workers don’t have JobKeeper.

The inadequate half-measures announced by the Prime Minister hand over taxpayers’ funds to businesses with no requirement that those employers keep workers in their job

A new JobKeeper should be made urgently available to all workers and should not be open to corporate profiteering.
