Have you considered investing outside of Super? For more than 20 years, industry super funds have been helping Australians to save for a better retirement. The tax benefits associated with superannuation make it a clear winner when it comes to building wealth over the long term. However, it isn’t available to everyone, and it doesn’t meet all savings needs. For example, some people have reached the concessional contributions cap and can no longer make tax effective contributions to superannuation. Others have investment needs that fall outside of their superannuation such as school fees, setting up a fund for grandchildren, renovating the home or taking an overseas trip. |

2017 Mother’s Day Classic – Sunday 14 MayRegistrations are still open for the 2017 Mother’s Day Classic fun run/walk on Sunday 14 May. From modest beginnings in 1998, the Mother’s Day Classic has grown into one of Australia’s largest national charity events and has become an integral part of Mother’s Day for thousands of Australians. In 2016, more than 107,000 Australians who took part in the event raised $3 million for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. This takes the total raised since 1998 to $30.4 million. ME has proudly supported the Mother’s Day Classic since 2005. |

Banks aren’t SuperThe big 4 banks are putting pressure on the government to make changes to superannuation laws which could benefit the banks at the expense of ordinary people. If the Federal Government lets the big banks have their way with super laws, the retirement savings of many Australians could be worse off. We want the government and other members of Parliament to stop the banks from getting their hands on your super. |

$14B could go from wages if penalty rate cuts spreadPenalty rates for weekend work add over $14 billion to the incomes of Australian workers each year, new analysis from the Centre for Future Work at the Australia Institute confirms. The new paper, Tip of the Iceberg: Weekend Work and Penalty Pay in 108 Australian Industries, shows how important weekend penalty rates are for workers across the economy. The modelling confirms that if the penalty rate cuts spread to other sectors the economic impacts for working people will be severe. After retail and hospitality, the hospital, aged care and medical services workers do the most weekend work, making them extremely vulnerable to potential future cuts. |
