Mobile banking - convenient and safe

Smart phones are changing the way we manage money.

Australia has one of the highest rates of smart phone ownership in the world - almost two out of five of us own a smart phone, and we use them for a whole lot more than staying in touch.

In fact, Australians are taking to mobile banking in droves with industry figures showing we are 65% more likely than the British to use smart phones for mobile banking.
Part of the appeal of mobile banking is sheer convenience. User-friendly apps let you check account balances, track savings, monitor expenses, and pay bills on the go.

Unfortunately, some people miss out on these benefits - often because of concerns about the safety of mobile banking. That’s why the Australian Federal Police teamed up with the Australian Bankers Association to develop a check list of steps to keep your funds secure when using mobile banking.

Take a look at the top five steps now.

Build a better future - fight for our living standards

Our living standards are what make Australia a great place to live and now they are under significant attack.

Union members in workplaces across Australia are voting to support a demand on all governments and our employers.

We want a different Australia, one where our living standards are protected.

We demand our governments’ support:

  1. Workers’ Rights: Defended and extended with secure jobs
  2. Medicare: Universal healthcare for all Australians
  3. Education: The highest quality for all Australians
  4. Public Services: Owned by everyone for the benefit of everyone
  5. A Secure Retirement: Decent pensions and superannuation
  6. A Fair Go For All: Everyone supported and everyone contributes their fair share of tax

Sign up to campaign on these demands and help us build a better future.

Check your pay!

From the 1st of July low paid workers including cleaners, shop assistants, restaurant workers, farm hands, administration and health care workers will see an increase of 2.5% in their pays.

All award rates, including those above the C10 tradesperson rate, will also receive a 2.5% increase.

ACTU Secretary, Dave Oliver said “Workers should check their pay slip and make sure the increase has been passed on and if not then they need to be asking why.”

While unions are disappointed the full $27 per week was not passed on, the reality is the $16 a week pay rise unions have won is the only pay rise minimum wage works will receive and is well above the $5 a week increase some employer groups were arguing for.

The ACTU urges workers to check their pay slips carefully to ensure they have been paid correctly and anyone who hasn't been paid correctly or who requires advice should fill out our contact form at Australian Unions or call us on 1300 486 466.

Domestic Violence Leave can make a difference

Before her 11-year-old son, Luke, was murdered by his father, Australian of the Year Rosie Batty spent countless hours in courts attempting to protect herself and her son from an abusive and violent man.

"It was like a second job," she writes in Working Life in support of the ACTU's claim for the right to 10 days domestic violence leave for all workers.

"Giving workers the right to take domestic violence leave means victims will have the security of knowing they are free to attend court appearances, to keep appointments with lawyers, and to make relocation arrangements."
