Show your support for baby Asha and the staff at Lady Cilento Children's Hospital

The brave nurses and doctors of Lady Cilento Children's Hospital in Brisbane are refusing to discharge Asha, an Australian-born one-year-old baby, who is set to be deported to Nauru detention centre.

The staff at Lady Cilento know conditions on Nauru will harm baby Asha physically and mentally. They’ve taken a pledge to do no harm and they’re refusing to break it.

They’re doing the right thing.

Send your message of support here. You can also upload a photo of yourself, your workplace or your family holding a #LetThemStay sign (download the sign here).

Stand with baby Asha and the brave staff fighting for her in Brisbane.

Dear medicos and allied health staff at Lady Cilento,

As a Mum, a human and a survivor of violence, I am so moved by your actions around baby Asha and the refugee issue. Thank you, for showing that there is a motive higher than political expediency and slogans. Thank you for your courage and conviction and compassion. Thank you for being true to the mandate of your profession. Thank you for all the lives you work so hard to protect, save and repair. And thank you, for showing the world that not all Australians subscribe to the idea babies belong in prisons where they are likely to suffer all kinds of abuse, simply because their parents fled violence “the wrong way”. There IS no wrong way to flee violence, and babies and children like Asha so need advocates like you. Frankly, our government and the Australian community also need to see and hear and witness the actions of advocates like yourselves to remind us – we can do better. After all, the people making the turn-back policies and operating the detention centres offshore all had ancestors who came from somewhere else too.

    Bless you,

I’m glad that someone has had the intestinal fortitude to stand up to this insanity and do what is right.

LET THEM STAY: the Doctors, Nurses & Staff at Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital have the admiration and support of tens of thousands of Australians. What the Gov. Ministers are planning by returning these people to Manus & Nauru is criminal, negligent and against United Nation criteria. By giving these people over to Gov. personnel places these professional caring people in jeopardy of violating their own ethical standards of conduct. LET THEM STAY!

I am appalled that Australia, a country founded on migration and the intake of refugees, sends vulnerable people to concentration camps in foreign countries and detains them indefinitely in conditions that are damaging to their physical and mental health. Decent Australians need to make a stand for decency and respect for basic human rights!

It is disgusting how our government is treating asylum seekers. It takes far too long to process people to see if they are legitimate and it is appauling that people are kept off shore as part of the deterent. It is especially terrible that babies, children and adults are being kept in dangerous and third world conditions. Consequently I fully support your stance and hope you are successful in your aim of doing no harm.

Thanks to all the healthcare workers who are standing up for the valuing of caring for people in need, and reminding Australians what we are doing to asylum seekers by detaining them, and reminding us also of the care that they offer everyone
