Five things we get wrong with credit reports

A credit report is like a track record of your credit health. It shows how well you manage credit, and that’s why a lender will look at your credit report when you apply for a home loan, personal loan or credit card.

Maintaining a good credit report may even help you access better deals.

But it seems there’s plenty we’re unsure about when it comes to our personal credit reports.

Here are five things we’re getting wrong.

  • Misconception #1 It’s only banks that check out your credit report

Most Australians know their credit report may be checked when they apply for a home loan or personal loan.

However, research by CreditSmart found less than 50% of us know that credit reports are also used by telcos and utility providers when we apply for a new mobile phone contract or open a new gas or electricity account.

Read on for the other four things we get wrong

The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) trade agreement – touted as the biggest in history – is nearing completion, but no one outside the secret negotiations knows what it contains, and by the time the Australian people find out, it will be too late to make changes.

The agreement will cover almost half of the world’s population, over 30 per cent of global GDP and over a quarter of world exports.

ACTU President, Michele O’Neil said, “These trade deals change people’s lives and have a huge impact on the Australian economy. They should be negotiated in full view of the Australian people, not behind closed doors.”

Wages continue to fall under Morrison’s plan

Quarterly Wage Price Index (WPI) has fallen 0.1 per cent to 2.2 per cent at September quarter 2019 on the previous year according to new data from the ABS this morning.

This comes after it was revealed that wage growth in new private sector agreements fell in the June quarter and over the year.

The Morrison Government has implemented a series of policies to reduce wage growth which have crushed economic growth and forced millions of Australian workers into financial hardship.
