Have your say on Penalty Rates

The Fair Work Commission is currently deciding whether or not to protect penalty rates.  The Commissioners now want to hear from you.

Do you get penalty rates? How would you get by if you lost them? Tell the Fair Work Commission what they mean to you, and why they should be protected.

The Government has submitted its Productivity Commission report to convince the Commissioners to slash penalty rates. And you can bet that employer groups will be getting their members to put in submissions as well.

That’s why we need everyone who needs or cares about penalty rates to speak up.

Personal stories are powerful. They’ve shifted Fair Work Commissioners before, and can do so again.

Use our submission tool to tell the Fair Work Commission what penalty rates mean for working people, before 4pm Friday 17 February 2016.

Demand for residential property to remain strong over next 12 months

Findings from ME’s latest Property Buying Intentions Report

ME’s latest Property Buying Intentions Report indicates demand for residential property may remain strong over the next 12 months despite prudential changes and tightening of lending criteria for some home buyers.

The Report shows a big jump in demand for property by owner occupiers potentially offsetting falling demand by investors, while buyers continue to outnumber sellers.

Industry Super funds dominate top 10 list, trumping rivals

Non-Profit Industry superannuation funds trumped their for-profit rivals, new figures show.

And Industry super funds took out the entire top 10 list for best performance in 2015, according to the latest Chant West  annual survey.

The survey compares the performance of all balanced growth funds, and revealed Industry super won out by an average 1.5 per cent, returning 6.7 per cent for members compared with 5.2 per cent for retail funds.

Chant West Director, Mr Warren Chant, said Industry funds deserve their top ranking.

“Over the longer term, industry funds have outperformed retail funds largely because, as a group, they tended to have lower allocations to listed shares during periods when shares under performed,” Mr Chant said.

Win one of 6 DVDs from Madman!

Enter the draw to win one of 3 copies of both ‘Walking on Sunshine’ and ‘How to Change the World’ that we are giving away to 6 lucky union members this month!

Walking on Sunshine

After a whirlwind romance, Maddie, fresh from a long-term relationship, is preparing to marry gorgeous Raf and has invited her sister Taylor to the wedding in Puglia, Italy. Unbeknownst to Maddie, however, Raf is Taylor’s ex-holiday flame, and the love of her life…and that is just one of the set-backs on their road to happily ever after.

To win a copy of ‘Walking on Sunshine’ email [email protected] with your name, address, union name and membership number before close of business Friday 26th February 2016.

How to Change the World

In 1971 a group of friends sailed into a nuclear test zone. Their protest captured the world’s imagination.

Using never before seen archival footage that brings their extraordinary journey to life, How to Change the World is an intimate portrait about the pioneers who founded Greenpeace and defined the modern environmental movement. Idealism vs. pragmatism, principle vs. compromise, they agreed that a handful of people could change the world. They just couldn’t always agree on how to do it.

To win a copy of ‘How to Change the World’ email [email protected] with your name, address, union name and membership number before close of business Friday 26th February 2016.
